More About the Band
U-Turn is a melodic hard rock band based out of Western Kentucky. They have 2 albums "No Filler" and "In Your Face" that were released all over the world and have played night clubs such as "The Downtown" in Long Island New York; The Boiler Room, Taylors, The Plantation and Club Crossfade in Owensboro, Ky; The Double Dukes in Henderson; and Club Lavela in Panama city, Florida. Their Main objective is to bring back a more melodic, but edgy hard rock sound to the music industry. We currently have both Major and Independant record labels in Europe and the U.S. who have expressed a real interest in signing the band. In addition to our original music we also perform songs by Autograph,Poison,Bon Jovi,Puddle of mudd,Live,Train,Matchbox 20,Scorpions,G'n'R,Cinderella,AC/DC,Van Halen,Kiss,Aerosmith, and Metallica just to name a few.... U-TURN released "No Filler" in 2003 on Bonote Records, with U.S. distribution by Trans World Entertainment. The band gigs relentlessly and sacrifices personal attachments to build their dream into a solid reality and a substantive future. The history of U-Turn goes back to 1995 when Jamison Todd received a call from a former band mate about a position for a lead singer. Jamison jammed with this prospect of a band and quickly realized only guitarist Scott McClure had what it takes to go professional. The two left the group to form a three-piece band with bassist Nathan Gossett and no drummer. Focusing on song writing, they performed acoustic shows in Owensboro & Bowling Green KY as well as Evansville IN. When Jamison ran into Jeff Phelps, a rock and roll drummer from High school, they jammed and the band was finally complete. Booked before they even had a name, they decided upon "SURRENDER" days before the first big gig and attacked the club scene with original music. Club owners wanted the security of cover tunes, so SURRENDER surrendered and mixed covers amongst their own songs. The hot audience response though was mostly for their original music, which prompted more writing. In the ensuing struggle to be creative, the bass player lost interest and left the band. The group stopped performing, intensified their writing efforts and focused on finding the right bass player. In a "fated" chance meeting Josh Wilson stopped by to show Jamison a new bass he had received from a friend. An immediate audition lead to his becoming the final member of the present group, which the members decided to rename "U-TURN." Developing recorded material in a style that might be called modern or 21st century "classic rock," the band began sending out demos. Soon E.S.P.N. producer Rich Kleiman called with interest in U-TURN's song "Survive" for an E.S.P.N. show called "LIFE". A New Jersey showcase netted the band a production deal with renowned producer Brian Drago (Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, Kool & The Gang and Sting) and U-TURN went into the studio with rock engineer Joseph Borges (Puddle Of Mudd, Limp Bizkit, Sheryl Crow) to complete the masters for their first CD, "No Filler". The song 'Drift Away" was released to radio stations all over the states and recieved such a very positive response that it landed the band the oppurtunity to make a music video which featured exclusive footage from CNN of the "Twin Towers"and other various "9/11" footage. In 2004 the band signed a deal with the well known european hard rock label Now & Then Records who released "Live Again" to radio stations all over Europe. Unfortunately financial difficulties the label could not overcome prevented "No Filler" from ever being released overseas and left U-TURN without a record deal. In 2005 the band was asked to play at the XMJ showcase at the Hard Rock Cafe in Cleveland Ohio in front of A & R for TVT,Atlantic,Virgin,Island, and JIve Records. Unfortunately lead guitarist Scott McClure decided to pursue other musical interests and informed the band to seek a replacement. That July after several auditions Jamison and Josh went to see a guitarist who had contacted them via internet perform with the 80's metal tribute band "Twizted" who he was playing with at the time and so after a few rehearsals it was decided that Chris Cleek would be the new Lead Guitarist for U-TURN. Soon thereafter the band was contacted by Baldwin Entertainment in Nashville Tennesee who put jamison in studio with producer Will Smith and some session guys including the guitarist from the Dave Mathews Band and the drummer who played on Nickelback's "Silver Side Up" album. Meanwhile Josh & Jeff took a much needed break and Chris played breifly with the local cover band Slick Willy. In 2006 Jim Graw who had previously played in a band with Chris was brought in as U-TURN'S new drummer.
